Our History:

The Honors Program began at the University of Kentucky in 1961. However, in 2015 the University of Kentucky received a $23.5 million donation from Thomas W. Lewis and Jan Lewis to go towards creating what is now formally known as the Lewis Honors College. The Honors College Student Council (HCSC) was originally established to serve as a team of students responsible for creating a brief summer programming event for incoming Honors freshmen, but once this program was phased out in favor of Lewis Launch, the Honors College Student Council sought out a new purpose. Now, HCSC functions as an independent organization responsible for serving and advocating for Honors students. HCSC provides regular programming (academic, service, and socially oriented) throughout both the fall and spring semester, as well as a research symposium and formal at the end of the spring semester.

Our Mission:

1.2.1 To promote student academic success by establishing working relationships with faculty and staff members, as well as to provide resources for enhanced student growth.

1.2.2 To enrich students’ experience in the Honors College by providing opportunities for them to establish meaningful relationships with the students in their Honors cohort.

1.2.3 To engage students in opportunities that will serve the Honors College and local communities.
